Ink on Paper Studies | June 2021 - Current
The studies are all completed from a leather-bound book with handmade paper each 6.5”x4.5”. I’ve been enjoying the flexibility of being able to easily create where ever I am with just a notebook and some pens, and also the flexibility of drawing organic forms because they are so forgiving. It seems to be a kinder subject matter considering ink isn’t so forgiving, and I have generally always drawn with less permanent media such as graphite, charcoal, and chalk. In fact, I was actually intimidated to start with ink straightaway that a couple of the drawings I began with pencil, but I quickly committed to ink solely.
I’ve been using a variety of ink pens ranging in point size and color as well as some art markers. Generally, I begin with the smallest point size or light-colored marker or pen and build my way up to thicker bolder pens as I establish my composition.
I have found inspiration from floral artist friends such as Locust Floral and Wife NYC, the Rocky Mountains (some on-site), 19th century French artist Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, my boyfriend’s vacation pictures, still lifes at home, and beyond.
As noted on each drawing, I continued to add additional details at later dates with some drawings having up to five date stamps ranging a two-month timespan. I may not finish a drawing each session, or I may think a new pen will be a nice finishing touch on something I thought otherwise completed.
Included below are the current drawings from the book—the ones that I feel are complete anyway. I’m about halfway through the paper and will continue to add new works here. All are available through my website’s shop.
