Explorations | 2018 - 2021

This exploratory work merges my interest in abstract painting with my somewhat newfound love of encaustic. I was very curious about different ways I could use the application of wax with other materials and imagery due to the resulting transparencies, but I had several other goals in mind for this work as well. I focused on composition and balance of textures/materials over concept. I was also aiming to simplify, as I have a busy mind, trying to choose the simpler decisions was a form of therapy. I was quick to execute an initial idea, but I worked on 70+ pieces simultaneously, making small decisions for several pieces each day which allowed each piece to unfold slowly, thoughtfully, and naturally. This resulted in multiple tangents and subsets of work.
